Davido Explains Why He Chose Music Over Politics Despite Family Influence

Afrobeats star Davido has explained why he did not enter politics despite coming from a family with a strong political background in Nigeria.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, is a member of the influential Adeleke family, which has interests in both business and politics.

His uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the current Governor of Osun State, while his late uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, also served as governor of the state.

Davido revealed that the possibility of him entering politics came up after the death of Isiaka Adeleke.

According to him, his eldest uncle was expected to return as governor of Osun State before his death, which led the family to consider who could take over the political role.

Davido said he was considered for the position, but his father believed he was too young at the time.

“My eldest uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, was meant to become Osun State governor again, but he passed away. We had to choose someone from the family, and my dad said I was too young. Then my uncle Ademola stepped in,” he said.

The decision eventually allowed Ademola Adeleke to take a bigger role in the family’s political affairs before becoming Governor of Osun State.

Davido has since built a successful international music career and gained a strong public following.

Despite his family’s political background and his own influence, the singer has continued to focus mainly on his music career.
