Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has recalled Members of Parliament (MPs) from their recess for a five-day sitting to deal with what he described as urgent parliamentary business.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Speaker directed MPs to return to Parliament from Monday, August 24, to Friday, August 28, 2026.
The recall was made under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of Parliament.
MPs had only begun their recess after Parliament adjourned on July 31, with the House originally expected to remain on break until October.
Under the new arrangement, MPs are expected to report to Parliament House in Accra at noon on Monday, August 24, to begin the five-day sitting.
However, the Speaker’s notice did not give details about the urgent parliamentary matters that have led to the early recall.
The House is expected to use the five-day session to consider and complete the business for which it has been recalled before returning to recess.
