Tension is rising in Kwahu Kotoso in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern Region as angry residents have staged a massive protest over the mysterious deaths of children in the community.
According to residents, at least three children have died under troubling circumstances within the past month. The community says the deaths have created fear, with many parents now worried about the safety of their children.
The protesters marched through the principal streets carrying placards and calling on the government and security agencies to step in and investigate the incidents.
Residents say this is not the first time such deaths have happened in the community. They claim that on several occasions, children have gone missing and were later found dead, leaving many people living in fear.
One of the incidents happened on June 23, 2026, during Ghana’s FIFA World Cup group match against England.
According to community members, there was a brief power outage while residents were watching the match. During the blackout, a child reportedly went missing. Family members and neighbours searched throughout the night but could not find the child.
The following morning, the child’s body was reportedly discovered near the Afram River, throwing the entire community into mourning.
The incident has increased calls for a thorough investigation into the deaths.
Some residents say they are disappointed that the killings have continued despite previous concerns raised by community leaders. They believe more needs to be done to protect children in the area.
The Assembly Member for the area has previously spoken about the situation, but residents say they are still waiting to see stronger action from the authorities.
Speaking after the protest, the Akwamuhene of Kwahu Kotoso, Nana Ampomah Kwakye, appealed to residents to remain calm while investigations continue.
He said the traditional council shares the pain of the affected families and is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to uncover those behind the deaths.
Nana Ampomah Kwakye expressed confidence that with support from the community and the security agencies, those responsible would be identified and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, residents are appealing to the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ghana Police Service to intervene urgently.
They say they want increased police presence, a full investigation into the deaths, and lasting measures to ensure the safety of children in Kwahu Kotoso.
As investigations continue, fear remains high in the community, with many parents saying they are afraid to allow their children to move around alone.
Residents hope the latest protest will draw national attention to the situation and lead to swift action before another family loses a child.
