Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah missed out on a medal in the men’s 200 metres final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after finishing seventh.
The Team Ghana captain crossed the finish line in 20.50 seconds, missing out on the podium after going into the final with high hopes.
Amoah had qualified for the final after running a season’s best time of 20.24 seconds in the semi-finals. His performance raised hopes of winning another medal after taking bronze at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Speaking after the race, the 28-year-old said he was disappointed with his performance.
“I feel very disappointed. I think I should have done better,” Amoah said.
He said he was happy with his lane but admitted the cold weather made the race difficult. However, he said he would not use the weather as an excuse and accepted that the other athletes performed better.
“I had a good lane. The conditions were not the best, but sometimes we train in conditions like this. The other guys were better today,” he added.
Amoah was Ghana’s only athlete in the men’s 200m final after James Dadzie and Mustapha Bokpin failed to qualify from the semi-finals, ending Team Ghana’s campaign in the event.
