Afrobeats star Davido has spoken about the first major scandal he faced after becoming famous, saying it happened during one of his first trips to Ghana.
Speaking during VIBE Magazine’s “Davido Joins The Vibe Q” interview, the singer said the incident happened about two months after his breakthrough with songs like Dami Duro.
According to Davido, he was in Ghana for a booking when a woman he had spent time with secretly took a photo of him while he was asleep and posted it online.
He said the woman wanted to prove to others that she was with him, and the photo quickly went viral.
Davido said the situation became stressful after his father, sisters and other family members started calling him when the photo spread online.
“My manager was the one who banged on my door to inform me. My phone was buzzing non-stop. If I saw a balcony that day, I’d have jumped off, I swear,” he said.
He admitted that he was young at the time and was still getting used to life as a celebrity.
“I was young and I liked women too much. God had to show me at the time. Those are the kind of lessons you need to grow from,” he added.
Davido advised young celebrities to understand that fame comes with public attention and that every action can come under public scrutiny.
