Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his readiness to coach the Black Stars if given the opportunity and the needed support.
Ghana are currently without a substantive head coach following the reported departure of Carlos Queiroz after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation failed to agree on his demands.
The Black Stars are expected to regroup in September as they prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Medeama coach Tanko has emerged as one of the names linked with the vacant position, alongside assistant coach Desmond Ofei.
Tanko, who previously served as an assistant coach of the Black Stars under Kwesi Appiah, said he would be ready to accept the job if the authorities believe he is the right person.
“If the Black Stars coaching opportunity comes and the authorities believe I’m the right man for the job, why not?” Tanko told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.
The former Ghana international also has experience coaching the national youth teams. He previously served as head coach of the Black Meteors, Ghana’s U-23 team.
However, his time with the Black Meteors ended without the team qualifying for the Olympic Games.
If appointed, Tanko would become the seventh head coach under GFA President Kurt Okraku’s administration.
Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco and will now be hoping to secure a place at the 2027 tournament, which will be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Tanko’s comments come as the search for a new Black Stars coach continues ahead of the team’s preparations for the next AFCON qualifying campaign.
