Ghanaian reggae-dancehall musician Ras Kuuku has shared details about his difficult childhood and the struggles he faced before becoming successful in music.
The musician, born Kojo Kurankye, revealed that he sold pure water, food and rubber bags while growing up in Dome, Accra.
According to Ras Kuuku, he lost his mother at an early age and was raised by his aunt, who encouraged him to work while also making sure he stayed in school.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, he recalled moving from Dome to Nungua Presby, where he continued his education while taking on different jobs to support himself.
Ras Kuuku also spoke about an unusual part of his early education. He said he skipped some classes before later returning to class two so he could be in the same class as his aunt’s son.
Despite the challenges he faced, Ras Kuuku said he continued to hold on to his dreams.
At the time, his main ambition was to become a footballer. He described himself as a talented bowler who took the sport seriously.
However, music eventually became the path he followed and helped change his life.
The young boy who once sold pure water, food and rubber bags in Dome has now built a career in reggae-dancehall and gained recognition as one of Ghana’s notable musicians.
