Inter Milan are in advanced negotiations to sign Tottenham and England full-back Djed Spence for a deal worth at least £25.6 million (30 million euros).
The 26-year-old has become a major target for the Serie A champions after improving his reputation at the World Cup, where he made eight appearances.
Although Spence faced criticism early in the tournament, he later became a regular starter and impressed during England’s semi-final defeat to Argentina.
Spence started 23 Premier League games for Tottenham last season as the club narrowly avoided relegation.
He has made 85 appearances for Spurs since joining from Middlesbrough for £20 million in July 2022. Tottenham have now started looking at possible replacements for the defender.
Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi said in July that he wanted to convince Spence to remain at the club.
De Zerbi also described Spence as an important part of his plans, despite the defender signing a long-term contract with Tottenham last year.
Spain World Cup winner Pedro Porro currently occupies Spence’s preferred right-back position at Spurs. De Zerbi has described Porro as the “best in the world” in his position.
Spence also played six matches at left-back during the World Cup and made 32 appearances in that position for Tottenham last season.
Tottenham have already signed Scotland left-back Andy Robertson from Liverpool this summer as they continue to strengthen their defence.
