Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has praised Ghana international midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi following his arrival at the club, saying the team has strong belief in the young player.
Yirenkyi made a strong start to his Coventry career by providing an assist in the club’s 2-0 pre-season win over AS Monaco.
The 20-year-old joined Coventry City from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland in a club-record transfer reportedly worth $30 million after attracting interest from several clubs across Europe.
His reputation grew further after his impressive performances for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, strengthening his position as one of the country’s promising young talents.
Lampard was pleased with Yirenkyi’s first appearance and believes the midfielder can develop into an important player for Coventry.
“We’ve got a belief in Caleb here. He’s a player that we’re happy to have brought to the club because he was well wanted by many clubs probably around Europe. We sold the project to him,” Lampard said in an interview with the club’s media team.
“He’s a good, talented player; he’s young. This boy, we believe, is going to really build his career so [he’s] a big addition to the club. I think we saw signs of that; hopefully we see a lot more,” he added.
Yirenkyi is expected to feature when Coventry City begin their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Friday night, with Lampard likely to count on his creativity and energy in midfield.
