The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) says it plans to introduce full 24-hour operations at all its regional offices starting in January 2027.
Chief Executive Officer of the DVLA, Julius Neequaye Kotey, announced the plan during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen.
According to him, the decision follows the success of the authority’s 24-hour pilot programme at its Adenta office.
“The Adenta office operates 24 hours. It only closes on Sundays. From Monday to Saturday, it operates throughout the day and night,” he said.
Mr Kotey said the Adenta office has recorded strong customer turnout during the evening hours, with the number of people visiting between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. sometimes matching or even exceeding the daytime traffic at some other DVLA offices.
“Services between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. sometimes match what other offices record during the day. It has become one of our biggest offices,” he stated.
He also disclosed that although Adenta is currently the only office offering full 24-hour services, several DVLA offices across the country have already extended their working hours until 10:00 p.m.
These include Techiman, Kumasi, Weija, Tema, Haatso, the Head Office, Cape Coast, Ho and other regional offices.
Mr Kotey said the DVLA will continue to study the performance of the extended working hours before rolling out the 24-hour service nationwide.
“We want to analyse the data, and from January next year, we intend to begin 24-hour operations in all the regional offices,” he said.
