The Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has launched a special commemorative edition of the Defender Magazine in honour of the late former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
The magazine was unveiled during a ceremony at the Ministry of Defence on Thursday as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Dr Omane Boamah and seven others while on official duty.
The publication celebrates the life and legacy of the late Defence Minister, highlighting his leadership, reforms and contributions to strengthening the Ghana Armed Forces.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Ato Forson said the commemorative edition would serve as a lasting record of Dr Omane Boamah’s service and become a valuable reference for future military leaders, public servants, researchers and Ghanaians.
He said the magazine documents the late minister’s time at the Ministry of Defence, his leadership style and the values that guided his public service.
“Your Excellency, with profound respect and immense pride, I hereby declare the special commemorative edition of the Defender Magazine, dedicated to the enduring legacy of the late Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, duly launched,” he said.
Dr Ato Forson described the event as more than a memorial, saying it was a celebration of a life dedicated to service, integrity and patriotism.
“The true measure of a public officer is not the position one occupies, but the lasting impact one leaves on the nation,” he stated.
According to the Acting Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah promoted professionalism, discipline and accountability within the Ghana Armed Forces while introducing reforms that improved the military’s operational readiness.
He also praised the late minister’s commitment to improving the welfare of veterans and strengthening cooperation between the military and civilian institutions to enhance national security.
Dr Ato Forson said the greatest way to honour Dr Omane Boamah is for Ghanaians to uphold the values he stood for, including integrity, humility, professionalism, accountability and selfless service.
As part of the ceremony, the Ministry of Defence also unveiled a cenotaph in memory of Dr Omane Boamah.
The monument was built with support from FG Global Company Limited at no cost to the state as a lasting tribute to the late minister’s service and sacrifice to Ghana.
