Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have suspended plans to remove Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante following the intervention of President John Dramani Mahama.
The Assembly Members had earlier given the MCE a one-week ultimatum to resign or face a vote of no confidence over what they described as serious administrative challenges.
Although the deadline ended on Friday, July 31, the members decided not to take further action after President Mahama set up a committee to investigate the issues they raised.
The committee, chaired by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has been tasked with investigating the allegations against the MCE.
Speaking to Channel One News, the Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area and spokesperson for the aggrieved members, George Kuntu Blankson, said they had suspended their planned action out of respect for the President’s decision.
“We are waiting on the President to act on our concerns this month. By the end of this month, if the President grants our wish, we will be satisfied. But if we do not hear anything by then, they will hear from us,” he said.
Mr Blankson said he is confident the committee will thoroughly investigate their concerns and present its findings to the President for the necessary action.
He, however, warned that the Assembly Members could revive their plans if their concerns are not addressed by the end of the month.
