Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team have missed out on a historic bronze medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after Canada successfully appealed its disqualification.
Ghana had briefly moved into the bronze medal position after Canada, who originally finished second, were disqualified by race officials.
The disqualification moved Nigeria into second place, while Ghana’s team of Joseph Paul Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh and Benjamin Azamati moved from fourth to third.
The Ghanaian quartet finished the race in a season-best time of 38.13 seconds, a result that looked set to give Ghana its first men’s 4x100m relay medal at the Commonwealth Games since 1974.
However, Canada’s appeal was later upheld after officials reviewed the protest, and the team was restored to second place.
The final results were changed again, with Australia winning gold, Canada taking silver and Nigeria finishing with the bronze medal.
As a result, Ghana dropped back to fourth place, missing out on what would have been a historic medal.
Despite the disappointment, the Ghanaian team put in a strong performance and recorded a season-best time of 38.13 seconds against some of the best sprinting nations in the competition.
