American rapper Nicki Minaj is scheduled to speak at a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, where she is expected to highlight what she calls increasing attacks on Christians in Nigeria.
The musician, whose legal name is Onika Maraj-Petty, will appear alongside U.S. officials who have consistently voiced concerns about religious violence in the country.
Nicki Minaj will join Michael Waltz, the U.S. Ambassador to the UN, and Alex Bruesewitz, a senior adviser to President Donald Trump.
The event is being positioned as a platform to draw attention to alleged jihadist violence against Christian communities.
News of the upcoming meeting surfaced after a senior U.S. political correspondent revealed the plan on social media.
Ambassador Waltz later confirmed it and praised Minaj for what he called her courage and willingness to “speak out against injustice,” noting that few celebrities have used their influence to address the issue so publicly.
Minaj responded with gratitude, saying the invitation was an honour and insisting she would “never stand down in the face of injustice.”
She stressed that using her voice on matters of human rights was a responsibility she does not take lightly.
Her engagement follows recent comments by Trump, who claimed Nigeria is witnessing a “Christian genocide” and announced plans to classify the country as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
He also urged U.S. lawmakers to respond swiftly. Minaj publicly applauded his comments and said it was important for global leaders to acknowledge the situation.
The Nigerian Federal Government has repeatedly denied claims of religious persecution, maintaining that the nation’s insecurity is rooted in criminal, economic, and political issues rather than religion.
Even so, U.S. officials continue to bring the matter to international attention.
