NDC and NPP Woo Shatta Wale Ahead of 2028 Elections — Music Icon Declares, “I’m Not Interested in Politics”

Ghana’s two dominant political forces — the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) — are reportedly making behind-the-scenes moves to court dancehall superstar Shatta Wale ahead of the 2028 general elections, according to sources within both parties.

Their interest in the award-winning musician intensified after his record-breaking birthday concert at the Black Star Square, which drew tens of thousands of fans and turned the historic venue into a dazzling display of Ghana’s national colours — red, gold, and green.

Shatta Wale’s Influence on the Youth
Privately known as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., Shatta Wale remains one of Ghana’s most powerful cultural figures, commanding a massive youth following that cuts across political and social divides. His unmatched influence and ability to rally crowds have positioned him as a potential game-changer for any political campaign looking to energize young voters and reshape public sentiment.

Political analysts say the scale of his recent concert — which packed the Black Star Square to capacity — has sent a clear message to both parties about the musician’s power to galvanize public enthusiasm.

“In today’s politics, influence isn’t just about speeches or rallies — it’s about who commands the hearts of the youth,” said political commentator Dr. Daniel Anin-Danso. “Shatta Wale represents that bridge between entertainment, social commentary, and youth identity.”

Behind-the-Scenes Approaches

According to credible sources within both parties, emissaries from the NDC and the NPP have, in recent months, separately reached out to members of Shatta Wale’s management team, exploring ways he might “collaborate” or “lend support” to their youth-focused campaigns.

While none of the parties have made an official offer, insiders suggest that both camps view Shatta Wale as a potential “game-changer” in rallying first-time voters and low-turnout youth demographics.

A senior NDC youth organizer at Ayawaso Central Constituency, Paul Dadzie, admitted that “any serious political party would want a figure like Shatta Wale on their side.”

An NPP communications team member similarly described the musician as “a national brand who speaks the language of the youth better than any politician.”

Shatta Wale camp responds: “I’m Not Interested in Politics”

However, the man at the center of the speculation appears unfazed by the political maneuvering. In a social media post, some time ago, Shatta Wale dismissed reports linking him to any political movement, stressing that his focus remains on making Ghana’s youth happy and united through music.

“I’m not into politics,” Shatta Wale stated firmly. “All I want is for Ghanaian youth to stay happy, believe in themselves, and understand that success doesn’t come from fighting each other over politicians.”

Music, Influence, and the Road to 2028
With the 2028 elections on the horizon, the growing interest of Ghana’s major political parties in figures like Shatta Wale underscores how deeply the entertainment industry now shapes public sentiment — especially among the younger generation.

Regardless of whether the dancehall star ever aligns with a political camp, his commanding presence at the Black Star Square concert proved a powerful point: in modern Ghanaian politics, the influence of celebrity culture is emerging as a force that could soon rival — or even redefine — traditional political power.
