Ghana’s newly confirmed Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, is set to be officially sworn in on Monday, November 17, 2025, following parliamentary approval last week.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama on September 23, 2025, with the appointment based on his extensive judicial experience, spanning the High Court to the Supreme Court.
He has been serving as Acting Chief Justice since April 22, 2025, after the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
During his appearance before the Appointments Committee on November 10, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie committed to leading an open and accessible judiciary while ensuring leadership that reflects both independence and bipartisanship.
Parliament confirmed his appointment on November 13, with 163 MPs voting in favour and 69 opposing.
Once sworn in, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will become the ninth Chief Justice to serve Ghana under the Fourth Republic.
