A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics has projected that Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson would defeat Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia if the two face each other in the 2028 presidential election.
According to the July 2026 survey, Dr. Ato Forson, if elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, would receive 57.5% of voter support, while Dr. Bawumia, who is expected to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP), would secure 35.3%.
The poll also showed support for other possible contenders. Kennedy Agyapong recorded 4.3%, while 1.8% of respondents chose “someone else.” Nana Kwame Bediako polled 0.6%, with Alan Kyeremanten receiving 0.5%.
The survey also looked at how the two leading contenders perform across the regions based on the results of the 2024 general election.
According to the findings, Dr. Ato Forson enjoys a strong lead in the 13 regions won by the NDC in the 2024 elections. In those regions, he polled 63.1%, compared to 30.6% for Dr. Bawumia.
However, the race is much closer in the three regions won by the NPP in 2024 — Ashanti, Eastern and North East.
In those regions, Dr. Bawumia leads with 46.5%, while Dr. Ato Forson records 43.6%.
The findings come as Ghana’s two main political parties continue preparations for the 2028 presidential election and begin positioning their potential flagbearers for the next national contest.
