The government has approved six new rule to support the realization of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Act, 2025 (Act 1124), in a move aimed at strengthening environmental governance, submission and application across the country.
The rule cover key areas including Environmental Assessment, Effluent Management, Air Quality, Ozone Protection, Petroleum Operations, and the Certification of Air Conditioners.
In addition, existing environmental rule, operational standards and manuals have been revised to align with the provisions of the new EPA Act.
Acting Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, disclosed this in Parliament while responding to a question on the realization of the new law and measures being taken to improve the (EPA’s) application capacity.
According to the Minister, the EPA has already commenced training programmes for its staff and other partners to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively enforce the new legal structure.
He said the training focuses on the new supervisory necessity, operational procedures and application device introduced under the Act.
Mr Buah further announced that the recruitment of additional personnel and the establishment of new EPA offices in districts across the country
He expressed confidence that the new rule, together with the ongoing institutional reforms, would improve compliance with environmental laws and fortify the EPA’s ability to secure Ghana’s environment.
