President Bola Tinubu on Friday said Nigeria will not bow to pressure from outside forces, even as global concerns grow over claims of Christian killings in the country.
In a statement shared on his verified 𝕏 page, Tinubu addressed the matter just days after U.S. President Donald Trump warned of possible military action over what he called “Christian genocide” in Nigeria.
According to Naija News, Tinubu stressed that Nigeria will continue to engage the international community with calm and confidence, adding that the country will not be pushed around or forced into fear.
President Trump had on Wednesday claimed that Christians in Nigeria were facing an existential threat and warned that the US could intervene if the Nigerian government fails to act.
He said he had directed the US Department of War to prepare options for airstrikes or boots on the ground, insisting that Washington would “completely wipe out” Islamic terrorists responsible for the alleged killings.
Earlier, Trump redesignated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over allegations of large-scale persecution.
