14 of the 17 electoral area coordinators aligned with Kennedy Agyapong in the Shama Constituency have announced their support for Dr. Bawumia.

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia wrapped up his Western Region campaign tour on Wednesday with a significant boost, after 14 out of the 17 electoral area coordinators in the Shama constituency publicly declared their support for him.

All 14 coordinators had previously backed Kennedy Agyapong during the NPP’s 2023 presidential primaries, a move that helped secure Agyapong’s victory in Shama. However, they now say the outcome of the 2024 elections opened their eyes.

Addressing fellow delegates during Dr. Bawumia’s visit, the coordinators explained that they had been misled into opposing him in 2023, only to later discover that the very people who pushed them in that direction abandoned the party and campaigned for the NDC.

“Our father here, Nana Kwamena, is the Chief Coordinator for Dr. Bawumia’s campaign. In 2023, we didn’t listen to him, and together with my colleagues, we refused to support Dr. Bawumia, which caused him to lose in Shama,” one of the coordinators said.

“But after the 2024 elections, reality hit us. Those who convinced us to work against Doctor ended up campaigning for the NDC. That was when we understood we had been deceived.”

They emphasized that they have now corrected their course: “We have learnt our lessons, and this time, we and the delegates won’t repeat the same mistake. We want to be part of Dr. Bawumia’s victory.”

The coordinators—key players in grassroots mobilization—assured Dr. Bawumia of their full commitment ahead of the January presidential primaries.

“We are going to work tirelessly for him. We are united, and we will make sure he gets a massive victory here in Shama,” they pledged.
